EYES IN THE SKY: HOW WE FILM THE RACE FROM A HELICOPTER

Shooting from an open helicopter door brings a unique energy to sports coverage. Fast, physical and constantly moving, it gives the images a sense of speed and scale that perfectly complements our drone footage.

At Goosebumps, our helicopter cameraman Jean-Marie Pezat is much more than just a camera operator in the sky.

More Than Following the Action

Great aerial filming is not about simply keeping a car or bike in frame. It is about building sequences: anticipating movement, creating strong compositions, playing with entries and exits, changing angles and giving editors enough variety to create dynamic films.

Every shot has to serve the story.

That requires constant communication and perfect coordination with the helicopter pilot, especially when working close to fast-moving competitors in demanding terrain.

The Eyes of the Production

From the air, Jean-Marie also becomes the eyes of the production on the ground.

He keeps track of the race, identifies key situations and manages the filming priorities throughout the day — from the leading contenders to the clients and athletes we are specifically following.

Up there, every second matters. The right position, the right trajectory and the right frame can turn a simple race shot into something unforgettable.

Let's Capture the Rush.
